CELTA Diaries-CELTA is Over!

CELTA course is finally over. I feel so pleased that I have learnt a lot from the experience, and I have had the chance to share it on Teachers Reflect. I would specially like to thank all those who have been kind enough to read my posts and leave comments for them.

I am well aware that I still have 4 more days to post about, and I promise I will do that in a few days. I hope I will be explicit enough in summarizing the last days of the course, and the accounts will be of use to anyone interested.

The road to CELTA has not been all easy, but it has been the most enjoyable. When I first started the course, I was mistakenly certain that I had already been doing everything in terms of teaching well enough. However, I realized that I needed to focus more on learners and devise my lessons in a way that would allow students to participate more through interacting with each other rather than interacting with me.

Now I understand better that learners can achieve anything as long as teachers are willing to facilitate their learning. It should be admitted that it is the hardest task to fulfill because it requires meticulous planning and a high level of readiness for transformation. When transformation on the teachers’ part is managed, learners will be more motivated, and they, too, will be transformed in the end.

I must say I have worked hard to change the way I teach, and I feel that I have got to be a better teacher in many ways. However, the real challenge is just beginning as I will always need to practice what CELTA has given me, and I admit I should constantly add to that.

In summary, I believe more firmly than ever that learning is the key to teaching, and anything is possible through perseverance. There can be no goal to remain unreached when the right approach is adopted, and teachers will discover what is right as long as they believe that they can make a difference.

  1. That was indeed a wonderful series. Infact I too recently finished CELTA organized by IH Belfast in Istanbul. The way you documented the lessons learnt is awesome. Great Job.

    • It is a matter of great pleasure to hear such words of kindness from your side. I hope the series will be helpful to all those who have interest in language teaching.

      Best wishes,

  2. It’s a relief that I managed to come across wordpress.com: it has the information I was actually hunting for. You’ve produced an outstanding resource and it’s clear you possess a detailed understanding of the issue. Thanks to your wealth of information, I’ve figured out a great deal more
about the topic and will be coming back for
    more.
